    The FBI and insurance companies recommend you do the following to reduce the risk of theft on a construction site.

    1. Secure the site with a chain link fence and post private property signes.
    2. Install perimeter lighting.
    3, Install security cameras and post signs stating that video surveillance is in use.
    4. Manage access to the site by changing locks frequently and issuing new keys.
    5. Mark expensive tools and heavy equipment.
    6. Keep records of serial numbers.
    7. Alert the local police to your project and ask them to patrol the area more often.
    8. Form a neighborhood watch.

    While these items are simple in concept they are time-consuming and implementation is another matter.
